Pause a contact in sequence means that the sequence is temporarily stopped for the contact. The paused contact will no longer receive emails and tasks scheduled on that contact will not appear until he is unpaused.

  1. How to pause a contact in sequence :

  • Go to the Contacts page and select one or more contacts

  • Click on the button Actions and click on Pause in sequence

  • A window appears, you have to select the sequence in which you want to put the contact(s) in pause

  • Click on Submit to put the contact(s) in pause. The contacts will be paused and will no longer receive the scheduled e-mails in the selected sequence until they are released from pause.

Care: if you select several contacts that are in different sequences, only the contacts present in the sequence you have selected owing to the drop-down menu will be paused.

It is also possible to put a contact in pause directly from the contact's page, on the sequence tab on the right.

A paused contact will adopt the status "Paused" (1) which is a new status in the sequence, and which you can filter (owing to our customizable filters) to find all your paused contacts.

2. How to unpause a contact in sequence:

  • Go to the Contacts page

  • Click on Add filter on the left.

  • Click on Add a field and pick Sequence state. Then click on Add a value and pick Paused. Finally click on Add this criteria. You will then have a list of all your paused contacts in in all sequences.

To unpause your contacts they have to be paused in the same sequence. Then you are going to specify the sequence :

  • Click on Add another criteria

  • Click on Select a field and pick Sequence. Then click on Enter a value and pick the name of the sequence you want your contacts to be unpaused from. Finally click on Add this criteria.

  • Select the contacts and click on Actions then on Unpause in sequence

  • A window appears, you must select the sequence in which you want to unpause the contact(s).

  • Click on Submit to unpause the contacts. The contacts will be unpaused in the chosen sequence.

Be careful : If you select several contacts that are paused in different sequences, only the paused contacts in the sequence you have selected via the drop-down menu will be unpaused in the sequence.

It is also possible to unpause a contact directly from the contact's page, owing the sequence tab on the right

Important : If you receive an out-of-office email from one of your contacts and it has been detected as an out-of-office email by our artificial intelligence, the contact will be automatically be paused in the sequence.

3. Reschedule the emails when the contact is unpaused:

  • If I unpause a contact before the number of days between the two steps has passed, the next mail will be scheduled respecting the number of days remaining before the next step.

Example: Let's take the case of a two-step sequence with the second step being scheduled 5 days after the first one. If a contact is paused and then unpaused two days after the first step, the next email will be scheduled 3 days later (it will be sent on the time slot initially planned).

  • If I unpause a contact after the number of days between the two steps has passed, the next email will be scheduled as soon as possible according to the schedule linked to this sequence.

Example: Let's take the case of a two-step sequence with the second step being scheduled 5 days after the first one. If a contact is paused and then unpaused more than 5 days after the first step, the next email will be scheduled to the original configured time slot.

Important: If you receive an out-of-office email from one of your contacts and the email has been spotted as an out-of-office email by our artificial intelligence, the contact will automatically be paused in the sequence.

Note: When you unpause your contacts, the sending mode scheduled when you added your contacts to the sequence is not taken into account. The sending mode will be defined according to the quotas defined in your account settings (Here).

Recommandation : If you want to change how your emails are scheduled on your planning after adding your contacts to your sequence, then we recommend you to pause your contacts in the sequence, change your quotas and unpause them so that your e-mails are distributed as your new quotas.

Be careful: Pausing all your active contacts in the sequence will not allow you to modify the intervals between the different steps or to add/remove steps.

However, you will be able to modify the schedule linked to the sequence in the sequence parameters (the new schedule will have to enable the time slots configured for the reminders in the sequence edition). This will allow you to change the day of sending of your steps.
